IBDRS Dismantling Readiness and Safety Review (IDRSR)

Submitted by ogomezal on

The objective of the ISOLDE Beam Dump Replacement & Sustainability (IBDRS) project is to replace the aging beam dumps at ISOLDE with modern infrastructure capable of safely and reliably handling increased proton beam energies (up to 2 GeV) and higher intensities (up to 6 μA).

The Project is divided in three major phases, the first of which will involve the excavation and removal of the old dumps (Phase 1), followed by a second part that includes the construction of the building (Phase 2) and a third one focused on the installation of the dumps, shielding and related infrastructure (Phase 3).

The review panel is asked to focus on Phase 1 identified as the more critical part of the project from safety, planning and budget point of view. Dismantling phase includes earth excavation, dumps dismantling, Boris tube dismantling (optional) and preparation of the worksite for Phase 2. This work is foreseen to be conducted from December 2025 to June 2026.
