UGent Seminar: "Boosting Beyond: A Novel Approach to Probing Top-Philic Resonances at the LHC"

The discovery of four tops production by both CMS and ATLAS in 2023 has been a tremendous achievement due to the rarity of the Standard Model (SM) process and its large final-state multiplicity, enforcing any analysis to consider a large variety of backgrounds for a very faint signal. This observation now offers the possibility to consistently study beyond the Standard Model (BSM) top-philic models where a pair of BSM resonances or one BSM resonance in association with a top pair are produced. In this talk, I will argue that we can reconstruct the resonances of two simplified top-philic models leveraging the recent developments in top-tagging algorithms, even in the case of pessimistic performance of these algorithms. First, I will discuss how we are able to create large "fat" jets which will act as surrogates of the hadronically decaying top quarks. Then, two techniques will be presented to target the two modes of production independently and which observables are relevant to disentangle the six possible pairings of our top quarks surrogates. I will finally show our results on the respective limits in the parameter space of the resonances, demonstrating sensitivity in their masses up to 2 TeV depending on the coupling with the top quark.
